Seven Last Words: A Lenten Reflection

The South Dallas Concert Choir cordially invites you to join us on this Lenten Reflection of the Seven Last Words of Jesus Christ, Sunday, April 10, 4pm @ New Hope Baptist Church (5002 S. Central Expressway | Dallas 75215).

The Seven Last Words of Christ refers to the seven short phrases uttered by Jesus on the cross, as gathered from the four Christian Gospels. The Crucifixion of Jesus has served as an inspiration to a great many visual artists and composers over the centuries. At least 16 composers have written musical settings of the Seven Last Words, for various combinations of voice and instruments.

Annually, the South Dallas Concert Choir has performed the Seven Last Words of Christ by the French composer, Theodore Dubois’ at New Hope Baptist Church in Dallas, with their Mass Choir. This year's concert is quite different from the classical version we've performed in the past. This year's musical selections expressing Jesus' seven last words will be music by African American composers alongside interpretations of the words that will be presented in short sermonettes by seven prominent ministers from the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.

The concert will be aired online Good Friday, April 15 @7 pm
