Flamenco Fever presents : Sol Koeraus “La Argentinita"

Get ready, as Flamenco Fever presents the fourth annual Spring Flamenco Residency featuring two months of non-stop flamenco activities.  First, a weekend of workshops and shows with dancer, Sol Koeraus “La Argentinita,” is followed by two full months of live accompaniment and music classes by guitarist and singer, Mariano Manzella from Argentina.   

Then, in May, Jorge Robledo, dancer, will visit Dallas for the last month of to finish off the series of flamenco classes and performances. Finally, the series finishes with a visit from stunning world class dancer, Paco de Andrea from Granada, Spain!

The two-month long Spring Flamenco Residency kicks off with a Tablao style show in the brand-new Black Box Theater at the Latino Cultural Center.  The weekend will feature dancer and singer Sol Koeraus, who has been awarded internationally for her skill and choreography.  According to The New York Times: “La Argentinita, harnessed the art form’s power with her seductively aggressive Soleá … her elegant carriage provided space for tension and relief.” Joining Ms. Koeraus on the stage will be, guitarist and singer, Mariano Manzella, percussionist Luckie “Abejorro”, producer and dancer, Julia Alcántara, and members of the Flamenco Fever Dance Academy.

The Spring Flamenco Residency includes the 7th annual Flamenco de Mayo providing low-cost performances for festivals, restaurants, and schools that want to celebrate Hispanic culture around Cinco de Mayo.

The Spring Flamenco Residency culminates with Paella y Pasion on Sunday, May 29, 2022, featuring live flamenco performances, flamenco costumes and accessories market, and delicious giant paellas cooked right before your eyes.   Amazing guest artist, world traveled, dancer Paco de Andrea, from Granada, Spain will make his first ever appearance in Texas at the Latino Cultural Center, Saturday 5/28 and Sunday 5/29 at Paella y Pasion and host a workshop the following weekend. June 3rd, 4th and 5th.

This creative programming series is typical only of nonprofit Flamenco Fever. “The Residency’ and ‘Flamenco de Mayo’ bridge the access gap between traditional flamenco performances in formal venues and economically diverse local audiences who customarily have limited or no access to such venues. These family-friendly events provide beginning flamenco dancers, singers, and guitarists a relaxed atmosphere to perform and learn from more experienced artists,” said Julia Alcántara, founder of Ida y Vuelta Flamenco Dance Company.
