Arts & Letters Live: Richard Blanco

Dallas Museum of Art

Selected by President Obama as the fifth inaugural poet in US history, Richard Blanco is the first Latino, immigrant, and gay person to serve in such a role.

Blanco was born in Madrid to Cuban exile parents and raised in Miami, and the negotiation of cultural identity characterizes his award-winning poetry. His latest book of poems, How to Love a Country, both interrogates the American narrative, past and present, and celebrates the still unkept promise of its ideals.

In celebration of the DMA’s exhibition My|gration in the Center for Creative Connections, Blanco will read his specially commissioned poem inspired by works of art in the DMA's collection.
